Compressor
#1

Hi, my compressor in the front of the coach is running and running.  Feel a leak around the filter, I ordered a new one.  Unplugged it because it won't stop.  When I do, my other compressor turns on and won't stop.  The coach airs up fine.  Will go to Travel mode, will level in auto mode.  It just started doing this today.  Any advice is appreciated.  it is a 2004 coach, Valid system.  Air is coming out of the bottom of that nozzle non stop.  Can feel with finger. I uploaded a picture of that and also the other compressor that is running.

Mine was doing the same, it’s all leaking from that little filter. I removed it for now and it’s airing up just fine now. I have a plan to redo my 120v compressor so did not bother to get the replacement filter.

Hopefully once you replace the filter it will be fine. I had several of my brake relay valves under the coach that also were leaking at the bottom plastic purge valve.

When you turned off your 120 volt compressor that caused your 12 volt to turn on. The 120 volt compressor tank,  will supply air to the 12v tank through a check valve , The 120 has a higher turn off pressure so if it is working the 12 volt does not turn on. On 712 there is a check valve that stops the air from the 12 volt from leaking out of that water separator. That might be your only leak or you might have another one.

We had the exact same issue on Coach 1241. I replaced the water separator as it was leaking through a crack in the clear filter bowl. I was also able to rebuild both of our compressors with a Thomas rebuild kit that made a big difference in their performance. The compressors would typically run for about 90 seconds to 2 minutes before cutting off. Now they run for about 15 seconds before cutting off. The kit is about $150 and includes new pistons/seals and cylinder liners.

Those plastic bowls crack easily. Too much heat up there. Get a metal one!

If you need more air leak chasing, I’ve made several videos to help:

I like how robust the Thomas are but they are too loud for me. I replaced mine with a ultra quiet 12v compressor. I have been running it for while with no issues. I cannot say how it will do in the long run but being that its a fraction of the cost of a thomas, I will probably buy a second one and keep it as a spare.

Here is a video of my install:

My 120v compressor is a gast and I am planning on moving it from the generator bay and replacing it with a California Air compressor. That project has been put on the back burner as I have been sidelined with getting some other projects done.
