Fixing to replace both windshields in our coach. Question being, Do we let the windshields float in the molding and the coach or do we glue them in . Thats the question. Some people state due to the tweaking of the chassis it will break the windshields if glued in. Anyone have any knowledge on this question, experience with windshield cracking ? glue it in or not.. Thank you

I never glued them.

I had an RV glass company put windshields in 316 several years ago . They glued them and required the coach to set for 24 hrs after installation to allow for glue to set.

Talked to Newell, they said let them float. If you glue them most likely they will crack at the curve in the glass. so guess no glue.

Ive been told by directly from Newell and others who have done this job not to use glue, glass should float in the gasket

I had both windshields replaced by a company specializing in heavy trucks and RVs We purchased both from Coach Glass with the same upper window tinting. They were installed (like their previous factory windscreens) with adhesive and rubber window gasket.

Cost was surprisingly low for the size of the glass and the labor involved.

This is great to know. I wonder do they glue the gasket to the body? Or no glue at all? I am having an issue with my driver side glass wanting to come out of the gasket. I was thinking that it should be glued. I have put it back in several times and it eventually slips back out. I need to get the entire windshield out anyways as it has a crack, maybe the crack is causing the issue. I can tell you it could also be from parking it at my house, its a bit of a slope to get in and out. It tests the frame for sure and I also have been battling getting the air system working correctly with leaks and other issues with the HWH leveling system not going into travel mode.

Now you all got me curious so I went and checked mine. The gasket is glued to the body but not the glass. It has held well and not leaked for close to 20 years. I am very careful to not get into terrain that torques the body.
When we replaced glass on my 1978 years ago it took 3 of us most of a day to get it right. I ordered that glass from Newell. We could not get the glass to set centered in the gasket until we actually trimmed a bit out of the opening. Keep in mind that on the old classics the body around the windshield was aluminum.

Thanks for your input. That is what I was thinking of doing, glue to body and let the glass float on the inside of the rubber. I think I was having more issues with the body twisting as my HWH system was not working properly and I think this has made things worse. Now that I hope I have it all working properly I believe we will be good to go. I did not want to replace the windshield until I knew I had the leveling issue fixed.

Yea I have got conflicting stories from newell. One tech says glue the molding to the fiberglass and let the windshield float in the rubber. Other Tech there says dont glue it in at all.
