Only one leg of electricity help - Drea5000 - 08-15-2026

Well today has been very eventful in a horrible way lol my second AC started to give me issues where it would trip the circuit breaker so I’m down to one AC

now I was getting some advice from a member trying to get my generator working. I informed them that I was plugged up on shore power, and if that was OK while working on the Generator, I was told it was :-) 

I was unsuccessful in getting the generators to stay on, but I cycled the starter 20 times. I thought it was a bit excessive, but he kept telling me to try starting it again so that we can try to get fuel to the rails unsuccessfully. Now previously I did own a motor coach and I remember blowing out the transfer switch because the shop that I had was trying to fix my own in Generator and they kept turning it on over and over again to try to figure out why it wouldn’t stay on, and it ended up blowing out my transfer switch

now I figured this one is a little different because it actually has the toggle between shore power and generator power

now I’ve noticed that other things are not working like the air compressors and stuff and so I go to the front of the Coach and lift the battery display, and I see that only one leg is illuminated, which I thought was odd  


I do have a leak in the water bay and the plug is by the water bay, and the plug for the shore power is a little frayed from being stored in the heat for forever, so I don’t know if it was from the excessive generator starts or from water possibly getting onto the cord I have confirmed that the outlet pole is getting 120 on each leg and 245 votes  when I plug it in I hear one click instead of two  


I’m pretty bummed out It was extremely hot and I felt like I was going to mess up something I ended up breaking off one of the little handles on the valve shut off at the water bay as well and that’s when I said OK I was done for the day, and then I noticed that L2 was not illuminated  :-( do I need a new transfer switch now? Did I blow it out?  How do I confirm this. Thanks guys

Drea, Check breaker box inside to determine if you have 240 there. Turn main breaker off and on. If not the tx switch is suspect. On 316 there are replaceable fuses on the relay box. The relays can be replaced in that switch box. My knowledge is only from experience replacing relays on 316 so I will leave that advice to another more experienced guru. Hang in there. I’m sure somebody will chime in tn the AM.
Does your power run through an inverter/charger?
Check the fuel solenoid on the generator. It should pull the fuel pump open when you crank the engine. There are probably small “ice cube” relays that power the fuel solenoid that could be faulty.
