Crankcase breather filter - xGE_97 - 10-14-2025

Question here for everyone. Have you ever changed the crankcase breather filter on your CAT engines? I think CAT only had that filter on the ACERT engines. The reason I ask is that it can get clogged and thereby increase the crankcase pressure. If the pressure gets too high it can pop the oil filler cap.

I am replacing my cap, because its broken. At the same time I'm doing the crankcase breather filter. You can't take it out the top of the filter housing because it is just under the bathroom floor. You have to take the entire housing off to get the filter out.

A CAT technician, when asked about this filter, said that the filter us a service item that gets changed with every oil service. Mine looks to have never been changed. We'll see when I get it off.

Just found out from Newell that this filter is on a 3 year change-out schedule. I doubt that mine was ever done. I'll search service records I have.
