Spin weld is exactly as it sounds. Spin the peice of pipe long enough for friction to create heat and melt it together. Honestly it's the same way a driveshaft is put together. Spin weld is the same as a friction weld.

I just called Newell and got some further information. Apparently a threaded bulkhead fitting is spun weld onto the polyethylene tank and then the ABS is threaded into that. So at this point, I just need to unthread the ABS and I will have a repair as good as new. I was mistaken I thought somehow they spun, weld the ABS into the polyethylene tank.
