Air bag change - cwl1979 - 05-31-2025

Today is the day. Firestone 9447 coming out. And Conti 8897 going back in. Had to swap the 2 stud base for the old ones but I knew I would. darn sure I'm not going to pay 500+ for airbags. Nor the labor to do it. Amazingly all the nuts and bolts broke free relatively easily. I was quite surprised.

That's the beauty of working on a coach, they have not been abused and run in the muck like a truck. I did a similar thing with mine, bypassed the ping tanks and ran the lines right to the bags. I ended up having to drill new top mounting holes but it was not bad and gave me an excuse to buy another tool, a right angle mag drill! My bags were $79 each, I have run these bags on my Wanderlodge, so I know they are good bags.

I had to swap the bases out for the old Firestone ones. After I got them back together I realized I need new air lines. The original ones are now to short by 2 inches. Unfortunately being in Alaska the stores I could get fittings at are closed till Monday. I'm just going to have them make me new hoses with 1 inch and reduced to 3/4 on the other so it goes right into the bags. And eliminating an extra fitting. Couple hundred bucks but satisfaction of knowing it's right.
