The solenoid is normally open and closes when the compressor turns on and opens to release the pressure and drain the bowl when the compressor turns off.

For you electrical gurus, can this valve replace the HWH spitter valve that Newell used????

Working pressure on that valve is 100 psi so it would be better to find one with a higher pressure rating. Other than that it should work.

I know that it is slightly below my 110V compressor pressure, but might be an alternative to try. I don't find a normally open valve with 1/4" npt that is rated higher.

There is an alternative and more cost effective solution. Use a standard air compressor controller with pressure relief. Plumb the relief line to the bottom of the spitter eliminating the solenoid valve. The controller will take the place of the well pump switch.

Steve,

check out my 110v air compressor layout in the above reply.

You can see the pressure switch from Grainger's that will release the air so the compressor can easily start.

I replaced my spitter valve with the one from Amazon below.  It took getting some reducer adapters as the old one is 1/8" npt.  The new one is 1/4" npt.  It worked great.  Will see if it lasts any better than the original ones.  In fourteen years I have replaced the valve 3 times.  $21 compared to $150.

I used the same switch as Richard shows above. I noticed that after a few months it would begin to bleed off air before it tripped off. I remedied that by slightly bending the tab that contacts the needle of the unloader valve.
